The major emphasis of our English classes is to promote students' communication skills through a balanced, differentiated language arts program which provides for student growth through appropriate practice in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and critical thinking. The literature-based Narrative, Expository, Response to Literature, and Persuasive units provide a framework in which the students use English skills to gain perspective on culturally relevant ideas, attitudes, ideals, and values. California's Langauge Arts Standards may be found here: http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/elacontentstnds.pdf Most of our English classes primarily use Prentice Hall's Literature: Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes to address the California Language Arts Standards. The website for Prentice Hall's Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes textbook series may be found here: http://www.phschool.com/atschool/literature/ The Developing Readers and Writers Program uses the Language!
